Influencers for Christ

Influencers for Christ

Written by Alexis A. Goring

A few weeks ago in March 2015, I was selected to participate on the book launch team for one of my favorite authors, Melissa Tagg. She was looking for people to serve as influencers for her latest book release From the Start.

Hundreds of people applied for this position but only around 100 people were selected. So when I found out that I was one of those selected, my excitement was uncontainable for three main reasons! Reason #1: I love reading Christian romance books, #2: I love Melissa Tagg’s novels #3: The main character in Melissa’s book From the Start is a screenwriter of made-for-TV movies and that is one of my ultimate career goals!

So I was already connected to the main character and invested in helping Melissa promote her book even before I received my free copy of From the Start in the mail. Yes, that’s right, I got a free copy!

Let me explain what exactly my role as an influencer is, in Melissa’s words,

  • “Influencers—aka the enthusiastic readers who help spread the word about an author’s book—are so treasured.
  • “An influencer agrees to say good things about From the Start in exchange for a free copy of the book.”
  • “An influencer agrees to read and review From the Start as soon as possible. If you’re able to post your review within a month of receiving the book, that’s ideal.”
  • “An influencer comes up with fun and creative ways to tell friends and fellow readers about From the Start. Here’s where we get specific: I’m going to ask you to commit to doing at least 3-5 promotional activities. I’ll give you more details later, but these activities would include posting reviews, tweeting and Facebook-ing quotes and graphics, requesting your local library or bookstore order the book, pinning the cover on Pinterest, etc.”

As expected, since receiving and reading the book in the mail a few weeks ago, I delved deep into promotional activities to get the word out about Melissa’s book. I did so with great enthusiasm because I believe in the product and when you believe in a product, sharing with the world flows naturally.

So where am I going with this and what does my devotional title, “Influencers for Christ” mean? Okay, are you ready? I’m going to tell you.

Just like believing in the product (Melissa’s book) prompted me to become an influencer and tell the entire world about how good this book is and why I love it, I believe God expects the same response from us who believe in Him and accept the gift of salvation offered through His Son Jesus Christ which in turn makes us…you guessed it, Influencers for Christ!

Let’s see what God’s Word (The Holy Bible) says about us as influencers or rather, ambassadors, for Jesus Christ. The New Living Translation version of Scripture found in 2 Corinthians 5:16-20 says as followers of Jesus Christ and ambassadors for God, we are given the task of “reconciling” people to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 describes our duty as it reads, For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

What an honor to be an influencer for God’s kingdom, an ambassador for our Heavenly Father, an influencer for Jesus Christ.

I don’t know about you but when I found Jesus Christ as my Savior, Redeemer and Friend, He changed my life from the inside out. He gave me a “peace that passes all understanding” (Philippians 4:7) and created a hunger within me for His Word. As I delved deeper into God’s Book (The Holy Bible), it was like drinking from a deep well of Living Water because I could not and still cannot, get enough! The more I learn about God and learn how to live my life for Him, the more I want to tell the world about the gospel of Jesus Christ!

I’m passionate about a lot of things but I’m most passionate about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and here’s the best part, I don’t have to fill out a form and submit it to a publisher or PR person then hope that they select me to be one of their influencers. No! All I need to do is to accept Jesus as my Savior and ask Him into my heart (trusting Him to lead me through this journey called life) and then that’s it, not only am I on His team as a influencer for Christ, I’m unlimited to the many ways I can tell the world about Him!

Blogs, Facebook and social media are wonderful ways to witness for God. But the most effective way I would say to be an influencer for Jesus Christ is not to simply tell the world about the good Lord but to show them through your daily living. When you let Jesus into your heart and make room for Him in your life, He will transform you from the inside out. He will give you a genuine agape love for His people and He will inspire you to go and tell the entire world who God is and show the world your story of how God’s glory came into your life and changed you for the better.

All that said, who’s with me? Who wants to be an influencer for Christ? Trust me, it will be a decision that will change your life forever and impact the world for the better.

God bless you!

With agape love,

Alexis A. Goring
