I decided to bite the bullet per say and do a garden this year. It’s my first time doing this and I hope and pray I have a green thumb. Not only that, I’ve planted flowers as well. Yep, I was crazy and decided to go all out this year and see what happens. Hubby looked at me like I’d lost my mind. I may have. Anyways, I’m going to document my garden and see how it goes.
As of today it’s been a few weeks since I started the flowers. They’re starting to grow. I have two rose bushes and two lily bushes. Now, one of my rose bushes is doing great. It started blooming like crazy a couple days after I planted it. Yeah! The other bush had a couple of buds that didn’t do anything so those got pruned off. There are two more buds starting that look healthy.
The lillies have been blossoming like crazy and doing well. Some leaves got knocked off with a recent storm but they’ve recovered. Yeah again! I also planted some other small flowers around those. These have finally started to grow from all the rain and are looking great. I still need to get some of the big green stuff that I call crap pulled away. I may have gotten distracted with planting the garden out back. I also got a hanging basket for outside.
Now onto the garden. I didn’t have a tilling machine and all of the ones that could be rented were. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, I went searching on Goggle and Youtube of course. I found a lot of things about double digging and some videos. I showed hubby who raised a brow at me and almost gave me a bless your heart pat. He watched and said um…okay I think we can do this.
We did. It was flipping hard because our ground here has clay in it. CLAY! That stuff is hard to dig through. OH, and to top it off we had crab grass in half the backyard I HATE CRAB GRASS! It was like trying to drill into it. I’m for real! It took us two weeks to get it all done, doing a few rows each weekend. Our oldest daughter was all for digging and gelped alot. the other three we’re like you’re crazy and are on you’re own.
Things are growing very well. Nothing really to report on there because, well, too early to see any produce. But all the stuff is growing.
